For $25 a fixture… (Stand, softbox, two diffuser sheets, a four bulb head with cord and 4 CFL bulbs…) shipped… It’d be hard to expect much more in terms of quality. This isn’t my first set of cheap CFL softboxes. And these are somehow even a little more cheap and fragile feeling than some of my other sets. But… they all three arrived fully functional and completely undamaged which with CFL lights at this price point I can tell you, from experience, is far from a given. The biggest disappointment and I feel like I should have known better at this price, is that these are not 45 watt bulbs. They are half the size and consistently about half the brightness (measured with a light meter at multiple distances…) of all the other 45w CFLs I own. Another reviewer measured their actual power draw at just over 20 watts so I won’t bother repeating that test. This mostly confirms my suspicion that these are actually 23w CFLs despite their stampings saying otherwise. While disappointed, I’m keeping them as I still have some uses for them. Given the price, they actually represent a reasonable value. And the fact that they arrived in good shape and fully functional is a huge plus. They will work, and I’d even recommend them, for filming video or snapping photos in situations where you can get the lights really close to your subject ( no more than 1-2 feet away). From much farther than that they’re not going to be much help… But for the price, if you buy them knowing that you are getting the incandescent equivalent of about 400 W per fixture instead of the labeled 800… They aren’t a bad value given the price. But be aware of the quality and output you are actually buying. They won’t take much moving around or abuse and need to be assembled, adjusted, and handled VERY delicately. But given that a typical set of three very “budget friendly and not so durable LED video lights with small softboxes, stands, and just a little more output would START at about $700-$800… these, at one tenth of the price, and probably 50 to 60% of the max light output, are actually a pretty good value all things considered.

I was a little worried about the brightness but with 3 of these they do the job. No need to upgrade bulbs. These are as bright as some LEDs that I’ve used in the past gigs. Works for video and photo

3 complete softboxes for this price is unheard of. I was skeptical about the quality but I am pleasantly surprised and happy with the overall build and light output. Easy to install just use commmon sense. These are lightweight for portability but sturdy enough for my needs.

Received this yesterday and so far they work and the quality seems good enough. 3 lights was really a lot of light but for the price it’s almost the same as getting 2 lights so why not I thought. I’m glad I made this purchase as I’m sure they will improve my photo quality.

This light kit got the job done, but a lot of the materials felt like they could break at any second. It also is very time consuming to set up and take down; screwing in 12 light bulbs is very exhausting. Also, the soft boxes were very difficult to set up as well. All in all it is an ok light kit, but to take about 20-30 mins to set up and take down is way to long, and that’s not including striking where to place the lights.

Although there are 3 stands with 4 light bulbs each, total 12 light bulbs, the volume of brightness is not enough as I expected it will be at least having more light then my room ceiling and stand lights that I used to use for the shots. As you can see from the pictures, the garment and background are not bright. Outcome picture quality is the same to before I have these studio light set. I’m thinking I would just buy more cheaper light stands instead of these kit. Disappointed!

BEST LIGHTS!! I bought these praying they would work, not break in shipping, and be bright enough and it is everything it says it is! GREAT VALUE and easy to use! Cable length is fine just have it close to an outlet. BE CAREFUL when walking around it because there isn’t a lot of weight at the Bottom so it is easy to tip over. Either use sand bags to weigh it down or just be careful.

I purchased these lights back in February and I am just getting around to assembling them and using them. I was a little disappointed in the size of the soft box (which is the only reason why I gave them 4 stars). I thought they would be larger than what they actually are (they aren’t super small though). I received every piece and all the bulbs are working. You are not able to dim the bulbs but there are switches on the back that allows you to turn on all four bulbs or just two (which was a unexpected surprise). The light stands aren’t the best quality in the world but they get the job done. I would suggest you purchase some sand bags or weigh them down with something for extra security. The assembly of the soft boxes wasn’t super hard but they weren’t super easy either. I wouldn’t pack them away after every use though…too much of a hassle. I am going to store them fully assembled unless I absolutely have to pack them away. I purchased these for video and photography purposes and so far, they work just fine. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I will update my rating, if needed, as time goes on.

I’ve bought a similar setup in the past and these lights are a good compliment for my studio setting. Love that you can adjust the lightbulbs. Sturdy and very bright!
