I bought this just to see if my 12 year old had an interest in this kind of stuff before I bought her a better wheel and clay. She seems to enjoy the clay but can’t seem to get an idea about how to control the wheel, I’m going to go in this weekend and see if I can help her get control over to it.

Granddaughter is 11 years old and I gave this to her for her birthday. She loved it. Had to buy extra clay but once it drys out it’s pottery so that’s expected.

This machine does not spin fast at all.U can not even shape what u hope 2 make due to it turning so slowly. I thought it having a power cord it would work well but I was wrong. I do not recommend this machine at alllllll

this holds the child’s interest well.It is not as fast as a regular pottery wheel, but definitely good enough use at home. No pottery wheel is truly for beginners, as the hand movements are difficult to figure out or to teach on their own. But this has allowed a 8 year old to make something resembling a bowlIt maintains interest in a variety of uses and a child’s creativity should not stop at hand movements. Sculpting and colouring, with a little guidance or reference given, will allow children to use their imagination to complete their artwork.

It can be played with at the age of 3. What I didn’t expect was the beautiful work she did alone. Very good for children and keeps them focused. Would buy again! As a gift!

I returned this pottery wheel. It kept stopping when my granddaughter tried to form a piece. Kept shutting down. Very frustrating. I returned it for a refund.

Halfway through the first quarter of clay it began sticking while turning. I couldn’t find any reason why this would happen as we did not even press down hard on the clay. I cannot find anything that tells me how to fix this issue.

When I saw this it reminded me of the toy I was most excited about, and disappointed by as a child. It seems that things have not changed much since. This wheel is powered by batteries, which means that if you put prerssure on it it slows down….too much to really be useful. Now, I had used a real pottery wheel, several actually, both electric and with a foot pedal, in weekend classes at our local museum and at camp. For a child who has not used a real pottery wheel this may be less of a disappointment, but an adult will have to guide them not to use too much pressure. I would recommend picking up some air dry clay because it is the lightest and most easily manipulated in terms of pressure. It was not too difficult to put togather, though instructions are lacking, most everything being in Chinese. My husband told me he thought I should not use the included clay because there were so many cheap elements. For example, the included fishing line to cut the clay and to remove it from the wheel is the lightest I have ever seen.Still this comes closer to “real” equipment than most sets for kids, which is why I rated it 4 stars. I also believe it can be used, if only gingerly, and with either very wet clay, or something light and pliable like air dry clay. I would recommmend the latter because then they have something they can keep, and it does not require a kiln to make it permanent.

My daughter had a different set a year or two ago – but the wheel had a ‘core’ in the center so every piece ended up with a hole in the middle. We were rid of that quickly. I have been looking for something like tihs – that better resembles the throwing process. This is a great little set, not too much to it – but just right. So far, we are very happy with this set. I would recommend it. It requires a bit of patience and dexterity so not for the very young.
