1.0 out of 5 starsThis product was promoted back in 2017 as the next gen type of lock. I bought two on a presale when it was called SkyLock. After Lattis purchased this product and failed miserable at supporting it, they canceled the product all together. You cant even find trouble shooting help on their website. Avoid this unless you have cash you want to light on fire.

1.0 out of 5 starsLattis Ellipse has no support. Online channels, videos or even documentation have been removed and the Mobile App for previously purchased devices no longer functions and indicates locks are “owned by another account” with not workaround to make their use feasible.

1.0 out of 5 starsWhen I bought this lock it worked. For a short while. And that was cool – the Bluetooth connectivity was not reliable, but at least the touchpad got me out of trouble. But solar charging was erratic at best. Eventually, the lock simply became inaccessible – even with USB charging, it simply became dead. I had two, and both became household ornaments. No amount of solar or USB charging would fix them. I had to cut one of them off a lock cable that was attached to it, just to rescue the cable.I reached out to Lattis repeatedly for advice or assistance. Many times. They never responded. Terrible service.A great idea. A terrible product.

1.0 out of 5 starsDO NOT BUY THIS LOCK! I bought this in 2017 and have had problems connecting whenever they change the app. I stopped using it. Recently I found it again while cleaning my closet. I charged it and it powers up, but the app cannot connect. I tried to do the forgot password and get reconnected but that did not work either. I tried to contact the company, but no response to email at the original email address and if I ask for help at website or app, I am directed to a “Help Scout” login page with no ability to login. The lock may sound cool and even look cool, but it is a very expensive brick.

3.0 out of 5 starsWorked will as long a you didn’t lose your mobile phone out in the field. However, the internal batteries ad shot – won’t charge any more – and there’s no way you can get them changed or find out where or how to do it.Won’t buy another one. Too much trouble.

1.0 out of 5 starsThe lock works okay. The app unfortunately has a hard time connecting to the lock itself. Having for almost 2 years and it decided to not work anymore. It was cool just having it on Bluetooth. The only issue is after so many times it gives up. It is supposed to be solar powered and now it is dead. I park My bike in the most sunny place and it gets no charge. It is good for the short term long I am Not so sure. My dad bought it for me and now o have to waste more money on a new lock and hope to god no one steals my bike.

5.0 out of 5 starsI bought one at bestbuy July 2020. It’s great. Absolutely silent mechanism. As good as a lock can be made. Water? I’ll bag it. It’s a good product. Would buy again if stolen. Like their paperwork says. All locks are defeatable. I have a carbon bike I don’t let it outa my sight. Now I don’t have to fear slow moving vans when I park it!

1.0 out of 5 starsDon’t waste your time with this lock mine stopped working in less than 3 months Lattis never answered my questions and never offer tech support. Buy something else like a pet rock, it’s much more useful!

1.0 out of 5 starsMy lock arrived And has never worked since day 1. More than 2 years later I am asking for support and get no replies. Do not buy this device.

1.0 out of 5 starsDon’t waste your money lock can’t be trusted and the anti theft is BS your always out of range it is sturdy but I’m afraid I might lock my bike and can’t unlock it and also a couple of times I thought it’s was Locked but it wasn’t

1.0 out of 5 starsDo not buy this lock! I was extremely excited to give this is a gift and it took so long to get with the company giving me different excuses every time I checked. I finally get the lock it’s beautiful and my partner was excited to use it. It wasn’t working properly and he sent it back to the company and we never heard from them again. Over and over again sending messages and no one ever Got back to us. The biggest rip off I’ve ever had in purchasing something.

2.0 out of 5 starsHave gone through 2 of these (purchased directly from the company) – the first failed on its own and they replaced. Apparently rain caused it to fail! (I am in San Jose area). The second intermittently connects – most of time i’m standing next to the bike for a minute or two waiting for it to connect. I would not recommend this product to people. I think it’s a great idea but their implementation needs more work.

3.0 out of 5 starsI ores it and being the cheapo I was ores a used one but it had alredy been linked to someones account so it was useless.

1.0 out of 5 starsThis item is complete garbage. Does not connect to the phone, no fall back unlock, no clear directions on how to press on the key. Instructions just say press on the opposite side of the key, press left, then right, then up, and then down, no markings, no orientation. The light can not be seen in daylight. I had to go and bring a car, load this bike up and have a locksmith cut it off my bike after this key locked my bike and could not be unlocked

1.0 out of 5 starsDon’t purchase from these thieves. It stopped working on me and became completely non-functional so I had to ship it back. I was initially offered a refund then … NOTHING! I haven’t received a reply to any of my emails in months! Clearly I’m not the only one out my $200. Everyone burned needs to start a small class-action against Lattis and it’s snake-in-the-grass founder Jack.

1.0 out of 5 starsThis lock is so bad that both my wife and I threw ours in a trash can today. We couldn’t get the app and the lock to connect with each other from about five feet apart.
Jordan Robinson –
1.0 out of 5 starsWorst tech purchase in past 10 years. Water was able to get in (bike was left outside in the elements, which is fairly normal) and corroded the inside so the lock will not turn on and thus disengage. This means my bike is now stuck because it’s locked. Such a weird and ironic thing that I can’t even get to my bike because of the lock. This product is not robust enough for the price point, nor is it to be trusted to secure a rather large investment (high-end bike). Definitely would stay away.

1.0 out of 5 starsAfter waiting over two years for this product to finally ship, I have been using the Ellipse lock for several years. Today, it simply died. I cannot reset my email, the company Lattis social medias have not been updated in a year… if you buy this lock expected will not work and you will not receive customer support.

2.0 out of 5 starsFor as long as it took to get this thing, I am disappointed beyond measure.Out of the box, this thing wasn’t working. I backed this lock on Kickstarter 3 or 4 years ago and have since moved on to other locks, and even bike lockers. I was ecstatic when this thing arrived at my door, couldn’t wait to use it. Open the box, tried to follow instructions on the app, but it wouldn’t power on. Plugged it in thinking it might be dead, but the app says full battery, so I unplugged it and to my dismay it still did not work. I made the decision to set it up, plugged in. The fact that I waited so long for this thing tells you I don’t even care to get my money back (which I would most certainly do), but it would be nice if there was a charge indicator beyond the app. I’m going to leave this thing plugged in and charging to see if it will work after a bit of a charge, if it doesn’t, I plan to reach out to get a replacement. Seems like a great idea, but I don’t see myself using this thing for a very specific reason. As you can see in the photo, my OnGuard lock is much larger allowing me to lock both wheels and the frame to the bike locking post of my choice, regardless of diameter. I have aero road bikes, and other road bikes with varying wheel depths. This lock is great if you have a bike where the wheels don’t matter to you, but I sure as heck don’t want to lose any of my wheels since I typically commute by bike.I want to commend the creators. Great idea. Maybe you have cyclists working for you (though the design suggests a lackluster effort), but try to consider that deeper section wheels exist, fatter tubes exist, and some riders prefer to lock both wheels for added security of their precious items. Overall, two stars: one for the idea, and one for execution.UPDATE: I’ve allowed this thing to charge in the sun as it was designed. Thus far, it seems to be operating more normally. I will further test the unit to see how this develops. Since USB charging seems a bit suspect at the moment, the current number of stars remains.
christine worrell –
1.0 out of 5 starsI would never buy this product. The signal is lost after 7 feet from your bike and will break very easily were you would plug in to charge it. There are a lot of similar product on the market with probably a better company.

3.0 out of 5 starswas really glad to have it, worked well…’cause more often than keys I carry my phone around…anyway, 6 month after purchase…the lock crashed …maybe latest firmware update was part of that issue…hard to say..as I amtrying to get an answer from lattis support since a month or so…

1.0 out of 5 starsThis is probably the worst techno gizmo i’ve ever bought. It is unreservedly terrible. Its a great idea, but is not ready for use.Refuses to hold charge, despite leaving it on USB power for a week. Put outside in direct sun, lost charge within a week, managed to open it up by hooking it up to battery, but after then refused to hold charge again. Won’t open again even with USB power. No response from Lattis.Even in the week it did work, you have to reconnect bluetooth every single time you want to open it – it doesn’t reacquire automatically in range. Needless to say the proximity open feature doesn’t work.unable to get second device to sync with lock, so limited to a single user.Keypad pin code entry only works to unlock the lock. Can’t use it to lock it, so if your phone is out of power you can unlock, but not lock again. This is of course all academic as the damn thing can’t hold its own power anyway so you’re never getting it off or on unless you carry a powerbank to power it.Did i mention Lattis is entirely uninterested in responding? If i could give it less stars I would.Avoid at all costs. Buy a normal lock.

5.0 out of 5 starsI backed this lock when it was still Skylock. This lock is exactly as promised! I absolutley love it! I have not had occassion to test the “anti-theft” feature (luckily), but I’ve been happily using it and even happier not to worry about keys and combos. It makes train commuting a breeze! I no longer have to sit hawk-eyed watching my bike. I am so excited to add one more of these to my family this holiday!

1.0 out of 5 starsI backed this on Kickstarter when it was Skylock. The project was delayed with quite some time, but that is to expect with crowdfunded products and I didn’t hold it against them. In the beginning, the lock worked fine. Sure, sometimes the app took a very long time to connect to the lock, but you could always unlock it using the keypad on the lock if you were in a hurry. My problems began after about three months. My bike stood out in the rather unremarkable rain. It wasn’t drizzling, but it wasn’t heavy enough to warrant notice, until I tried to unlock the lock. I saw that the keypad had stopped working. The keypad consists of four arrows and a center button for confirmation but the caveat is that you don’t see the keys unless they light up – which they don’t if the keypad is broken. Fortunately, I managed to use the app to unlock it. I got home, and now the app seemed to work fine as I locked my bike in my garage. This is when the app stopped connecting to the lock. Fortunately, my bike was in the garage. Unfortunately, it had the Lattis on it, and it seemed to have become unresponsive. It showed up in the app, but trying to connect to the lock did nothing. I contacted their support on September 6, 2017. The first response came within two business days, then they started to become more sporadic. Nudging them on Twitter helped, and connected me to two other customers with similar issues. They were more frustrated than me, which I completely understand – a security product that locks you out from your own bike is not a good product. The suggestions from support contained tactics that I can only classify as “stalling”. “Charge the lock for 72 hours” was seriously one of their suggestions. I’m not sure how charging such a small battery for three days would help (it didn’t, neither for me nor the other person with the same problem) and they resorted to recommending an angle grinder. When you have a carbon fiber frame, that’s not a good idea. After some tinkering and attempting to connect over and over again, I managed to unlock the Lattis and now I was promised a refund. This was on October 2. Since then they have been very sporadic in their communication. The last response from them was on November 3, when they said that they would issue a refund to my Paypal address. Since then, they have stopped responding and blocked me on Twitter. I know that there are customers who can be … forceful in their frustrations, and I’m not asking you to take my word for that I haven’t been rude to them, you can check yourself: my Twitter account is @kazarnowicz and you can easily use Twitter search to find my conversation with @hellolattis.They haven’t updated their Facebook page and Instagram account in more than six months, but still claim to be shipping products. The comments of their last Facebook update are filled with comments from frustrated people.

1.0 out of 5 starsThe only piece of advice I can offer you is to avoid this company. Maybe the lock is great, maybe it’s note. But a number of people who helped them at the fundraising stage who made it possible for them to develop this have been have all been ignored and as such there is now a class action being put together to seek compensation from what amounted to fraudulent behaviour on their part.

5.0 out of 5 starsBeen using this lock for about 6 months. Really convenient not having to fumble with keys to lock and unlock. Also, bike theft is pretty high in my neighborhood so the theft detection feature is an added bonus. Overall, very happy with this lock.

1.0 out of 5 starsTLDR/ This is crazy expensive and likely less useful/convenient than a standard key operated U-lock.So this was a crazy expensive bike lock and it took us 18 months to get, so when it showed up I was very excited. It didn’t take long for the excitement to fade. It’s features are generally as promised, but it really isn’t effective enough to be useful. The main seller for me is the theft detection. But this only works while you’re close enough to the lock for it to be connected by Bluetooth. In an open field, that might be 100 feet. In San Francisco, I can be in a restaurant with my bike right outside the front door, and the lock is out of range. If there’s a wall between you and your bike? Forget it. Maybe 20 feet range. What good is theft detection if you have to be so close to your bike that you can still see it?The other interesting feature for me was the Autolock, where you just walk up to your bike and it unlocks. Voila! Well, maybe. I lock the bike downstairs from my office. When I go back, more often than not, nothing happens. I have to pull out my phone, unlock it, open the app, fart around in there until it wakes up and connects to the lock, then I manually hit the unlock button. I can pull out a key and unlock a standard lock 10 times in the time it takes me to get this thing off my bike. It’s pretty annoying to walk up to my bike and just stand there yanking on the lock wondering if it’s unlocked this time or not. Usually not.The only true and reliable feature of this lock is that is uses your phone instead of a key. If you don’t want to carry a key, and strongly prefer to pull out your phone, unlock the phone it, open the Ellipse app, unlock the lock, and repocket your phone, and you’re willing to pay through the nose for that incredible convenience. Then congrats. This is your lock. Pony up!

1.0 out of 5 starsUpdate: it’s been almost 2 years since i‘m trying to get my money back. After a lot of promises from their side now they didn’t even answer the emails. DON’T buy this lock if you want a happy life. After waiting more than one year over the promised delivery period (extra development time that I can understand), I finally got my lock. It didn’t matter that I paid a small fortune on it, I was happy to finally have an awesome bike lock. One month later, after a rain (yeah Lattis guys, it rains outside in case you didn’t notice it) the lock starting functioning badly. A couple of days later and I barely managed to unlock it from the bike using the USB charger and the phone. And that was it. 10 of July 2017. It’s been already too many months since I am discussing with the team for a solution. In the end, they said they will give me my money back. It’s already one month, I sent them all the necessary documents and since that point no response. It’s an amazing bike if you keep it out of reach of water (so move to the desert just to make sure).
