5.0 out of 5 starsI always get so jealous when the neighbor fires up his smoker and the whole neighborhood smells like heaven. So when this unit came out, I was excited to give it a try.MY husband was certain the smoke alarms would be screaming and all would be chaos, but this is MEANT to be an indoor appliance. I am sure he imagined a big ungainly metal smoker in here with all the mess, grease, and hassle that classic smokers cause. No hovering around it checking constantly with a thermometer and hoping your meat doesn’t come out like shoe leather. Nope! This does emit some smell but it’s more like food cooking, and it has a function to clear the inside of it from smoke before you open the door so you’re not filling your house with smoke. You need a lot of space for it, about 30+ inches as it needs clearance around it while in operation. It gets super hot to the touch, so no kids or pets near it.But as long as you have a place you can put it when not in use or a kitchen big enough to accommodate this delightful appliance on the counter, it’s not an issue.I’m quite pleased with it. It really makes a simple meal special and we’ve smoked various meats with it so far and I love everything.

4.0 out of 5 starsSo far, I’ve enjoyed using the GE Indoor Smoker. For the most part, it does well. Be very cautious when choosing wood pellets. Cheaper pellets tend to produce “dirty” smoke, which has caused my smoke detector to go off a few times. If you have the money to spend on this smoker, you have money for high-end wood pellets. :-)The food I’ve prepared has been delicious! Clean-up of the unit isn’t too bad after the smoking process, but cleaning around the heating coil area can be challenging at times… not the best design. Most of the functions work well through the control panel, with one major exception: the Clear Smoke feature. Be cautious of the remaining smoke in the oven chamber after completing the Clear Smoke cycle. If not, you may wind up with a room full of smoke after opening the door. Even though this smoker is labeled and promoted as an Indoor smoker, be sure to keep a door or window open, in addition to keeping all available exhaust fans on during use.All in all, I recommend this product to anyone who cannot accommodate an outdoor smoker. This product is a good fit for someone in an apartment or condo.

1.0 out of 5 starsCooked ribs in it and they were great. Second use it would never get out of pre heat. Price went up so they refused to replace had to just get a refund and I had to pay return shipping so I lost 100$ 🙃

4.0 out of 5 starsThis claims to be an indoor smoker because it filters the smoke, but the filtration is not perfect. You will still get a lot of smoke smell in your house if you use this indoors. That may be ok with you, or it may be irritating. I found this makes a much better garage smoker, where I don’t care if it permanently smells like delicious smoked meat.Cleaning this smoker is not easy, but that’s probably true of most smokers. This one is challenging because of it’s size. There are parts that are difficult to reach for cleaning.Flavor is excellent to my taste. I saw some other reviewers claim it doesn’t impart enough smoke flavor into meats, but I found it does a very good job. The top rack does get more smoke than the middle and bottom racks, so it helps to rotate racks for even flavor distribution, but it’s not necessary if there are some items you want to have more smoke and others to have less.Value proposition is a bit nebulous. This is a unique device and may give some people the option to smoke food who otherwise would not be able to. In that regard, it may be worth the price. If you have the ability to use an outdoor smoker, I’m not sure if it’s wroth it. Perhaps it may be prudent to wait for a more refined version or for the price to come down a bit.

5.0 out of 5 starsI bought this on Kickstarter during development. It is a great machine. I have read quite a few negative reviews saying the panel only shows one display and it cannot be changed. That is because that is a peel off PLASTIC DEMO DISPLAY! One has to peel off the plastic to see and use the display. It’s too bad to see a great product get trashed because of user ignorance. I love mine.

1.0 out of 5 starsI really wanted to try the smoker thinking it would be easier to regulate temps than my pellet smoker outside. It probably could have if it didn’t rely so heavily on cutting-edge tech. Out of the box, I spent 4 hours trying to get the wifi to connect only to find out this is a pretty common troubleshooting issue for this product. Once I got it connected, I tried to smoke some wings only to have the smoker unable to perform such a task as it is convinced there is a door open, effectively putting it in shutdown mode. I’ve opened and shut every door, unplugged and reset the entire product. The hassle of troubleshooting everything for extended periods of time is far more exhausting than rather simply cooking outside. Until the tech comes around and gets the bugs worked out, stay away from this buyer’s remorse.

1.0 out of 5 starsWhile I like the smoker, I have to use mine on a ventilated screen porch. When used indoors, it released enough fumes that everyone in my household started complaining about headaches, sinus problems, watering eyes, asthma, and so on. So we moved it onto the porch.

5.0 out of 5 starsI believe a great many of the very negative reviews of the GE Smoker are because of the reviewers failure to remove the “display” menu sticker affixed to the Smoker at the factory. I INITIALLY MADE THE SAME MISTAKE.Often unplugged electric items displayed in stores have a black plastic sticker imprinted with neon type that mimicks the electronic display that appears when plugged in.Remove the black sticker, turn the smoker on and wallah the real letters are displayed on the smoker. That’s what I thought the problem was but the black sticker was so tightly affixed that I was afraid to peal it off for fear of damaging the Smoker. A call to GE confirmed what I thought. I was then was more forceful and it came off.So, discount some — if not all — of these negative ratings claiming that it doesn’t work out of the box. Its a great smoker.

5.0 out of 5 stars𝘁𝗹;𝗱𝗿: Versatile smart smoker-oven; accurate temperature control, broad utility, sleek design, good app integration, but has a steep learning curve, challenging cleanup, and indoor smoke odor.┈╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍─╍┄┈┄╍┈𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀:🌡️ This product functions as a smart toaster oven or a small oven with a smoking feature, packed with smart capabilities. The temperature probe is substantial, and it maintains its temperatures accurately; I’ve found myself using it for a variety of tasks beyond smoking, such as heating beef for reverse searing.🤔 The device isn’t particularly intuitive; you’ll definitely need to consult the manual to properly set up both the hardware and understand its operation.🏠 Design-wise, it’s sleek and attractive, fitting well into a modern kitchen aesthetic, although it does require a considerable amount of space.📱 It includes phone connectivity through GE’s Smart HQ app, which is relatively easy to pair with and monitor your cooking without issues.🧽 Cleaning isn’t easy, as expected with a smoker. It leaves a layer of smoke residue and resin inside the oven, requiring vigorous scrubbing to get it thoroughly clean.🍖 The smoke quality is impressive, more effective than anticipated. It finds a balance between an oven and a smoker, offering better smoking capabilities than other countertop smokers but not quite matching the performance of a full outdoor smoker.👃 My only significant complaint is the noticeable smoke smell in the house during use. Smoking a pork shoulder for an entire day left a faint smell of the pellets throughout the house, necessitating the use of my range hood to vent the smoke outdoors, especially as the smell accumulated over the 10 hours. However, it’s less intense than what one might expect from indoor smoking.Overall, this appliance is a versatile addition to the kitchen, blending smart oven convenience with effective smoking features, albeit with a learning curve and cleaning effort.

2.0 out of 5 starsFirst of the product works as advertised. There is no smoke the food taste great and all that is ruined by the fact that 24 hours later my home still reeks of smoke. For context I live in a mid sized two story townhouse. After using it everything was cleaned up within an hour including emptying the waste bin and washing the racks and drip tray.I had high hopes for this product but can not recommended it for anyone.

5.0 out of 5 starsYou’re buying an indoor smoker? This is the only one you can get on amazon right now, and it is priced accordingly.I see a few of these reviews saying the included recipes are not great or overcooked their food and don’t mention the marvel of smoking indoors. If you’ve never smoked or cooked anything before you might find those same results. Do some research and make adjustments to the recipes as needed. Lower and slower is a safe bet almost always. The hot air expelled by the smoker smells like you’re smoking meat, it smells like smoke and meat. If this is a problem for you it is because you don’t like smoked food, what are you even doing sitting there reading this? There is no visible smoke coming out unless you open the door without clearing the smoke, which can sometimes be janky when clearing smoke near the end of the cook cycle (takes 10 WHOLE minutes) if the cycle ends before the smoke clears you have no way of knowing if the smoke is actually cleared or not, but I think it’s fine because my alarms never went off.Cleaning took a bit of elbow grease to get it like new, foil in the bottom tray helps, but it’s not absolutely necessary to get every rack like new after each use, dishwasher works wonders on those, I like cleaning the glass every time to be able to see in with some degree of certainty, use a flashlight because if the top rack is full it is hard to see into the bottom, but your phone light works fine too so it’s a weird complaint.Yes it uses a lot of power, it’s an electric oven, the pellets are for smoke only, not heat. I had it on the same circuit as a small chest freezer in my apartment and when the freezer kicked in it tripped my GFCI, run it on a mostly empty circuit for long smokes to be sure it doesn’t get tripped.I won a 500 dollar gift card from my employer and it went on sale the same week as if it was meant to be, I’ve done several batches of wings with the included recipe thar were flawless for the flavor, cook time, and cook temp (minus like 5 degrees but still damn close to perfect there). Ribs recipe was overcooked but still edible, but the second batch of racks I did lower and slower turned out perfect. Going to be doing a bigger roast this weekend using a recipe straight from the internet recommended from a colleague that I’m sure will be great, will update if not. This is an amazing tool for anyone looking to get into meat smoking from an apartment. Even considering there are zero alternatives for this product they made something special here and I would be shocked if China could make something better for less. Maybe if the market stays strong other companies will compete for the space, that would help everyone with that kind of competition and I think this unit will fare pretty well until major improvements of design or major cost savings for same quality happen. If you want to smoke indoors the price is only based on what you are comfortable spending, if you can or already do smoke outdoors you should keep clutching your pearls and act like your above such a product.I will be buying a house this year and will continue to use this product until I need to cook for more than just me and the wife because it is only really able to cook for two people (maybe 4 if you eat as little as she does). Looking forward to smoking some veggies after the roast!

5.0 out of 5 starsThe GEIS (GE Indoor Smoker) is amazing! The bark this thing produces is astounding (stick burner levels)! Getting rave reviews on r/IndoorBBQSmoking. Meathead should publish a review within a month he says.I got mine for $650 on sale, which I think is well worth it.Obviously a lot of thought went into this appliance. It is well designed and very well built. The built-in controls and presets (there is also manual mode) are easy to use, and the optional smartphone app connects quickly and reliably and is also intuitive to use.Heat is provided by an electrical element in the bottom, so the pellets are only there for smoke. So it is efficient, using only ~2 cups of pellets in 4 hours (compare that to 1 lbs/hour in an outdoor pellet smoker that uses pellets for heating). So you can afford to buy the very best pellets (B&B, BBQr’s Delight, Knotty Wood, Jealous Devil, Bear Mountain…), which is also the key to getting a strong smokey flavor. Skip the discount brands and Traeger. Also, technique is important for maximum flavor, so start with cold, wet meat, start at a lower temp before ramping up, and use those high quality 100% hardwood pellets.Capacity is pretty good: 3 racks of ribs (if cut in half); 11-15lbs brisket (if cut in half); large chicken or small turkey; 40 wing parts. The ability for it to switch to a lower holding temperature automatically is also really convenient for timing dinner or doing an extended hold on your brisket.Areas GE could improve: 1) it could always use even more smoke flavor; 2) better convective air circulation so we don’t have to rotate racks during cook; and 3) some but not all people have had issues with the accuracy of the built-in temperature probe (although I use my wireless Combustion thermometers anyway). It removes the smoke using a catalytic system (they previously used it for the $9000 Monogram Hearth Oven). It really works, but there will still be the smell of BBQ food in your kitchen, but most people don’t mind that. But zero smoke or noxious gasses. I’ve seen people who have air quality monitors that it doesn’t budge the dial, and has less of an effect than cooking in their conventional oven.Well done GE & FirstBuild! This really is a revolutionary cooking appliance![Edit: For “Phil” below, there’s a realistic looking sticker that covers the display. Take that off and your display will change!]

5.0 out of 5 starsUPDATE:I tried customer service again, reached a person and the racks were sent right away and got to our home in about 5 days. They fit perfectly. We are super happy. It works great and it didn’t take too much of a learning curve. My husband constantly cooks with it and it’s upped his game! He calls it a game changer. It doesn’t make a mess of the kitchen and actually keeps the mess down! We are very happy………………………………My husband loves cooking with this and has been cooking up a storm…but we never got the racks that were supposed to be included for it. Hence the low review. When we actually receive the racks that we were promised by their customer service, I will change the stars on this review. They said they would send them weeks ago but haven’t sent a tracking number. I don’t think they actually mailed anything. My husband has been using the dollar store disposable aluminum baking trays for the time being to cook things. He tried ordering racks but the ones required are an unusual size and we can’t find the right size anywhere, so now we have to return the ones he ordered. It’s really annoying and I’m going to have to reach out to customer service again to ask them to send the racks. Hopefully they do.He recently started using the smart/wifi part of it too and he said it hooked up well and is easy to use. It definitely makes it all more dummy proof and easy to set it and forget it, which is a good thing. The house smells great when things are smoking, but it doesn’t smoke up the kitchen or house like we expected and we haven’t needed to do anything to ventilate the area at all. It keeps it all very contained. He’s made tons of chicken, pork, vegetables such as peppers, has smoked mashed potatoes he’s made, and even has smoked some apple compote desserts. He is in love with it and likes it much better than grilling, as this keeps moisture in and most things we’ve had grilled turn out so dry.The instructions are good. It didn’t take him long to figure out. It looks like a beast when it arrives in a giant box, but it actually doesn’t take *too* much room on the counter and he uses it every few days at this point.I can’t speak to longevity as we’ve only had it a few months, but so far so good. I hope we get the racks that were supposed to come with it.

1.0 out of 5 starsI’ve been following this product for a while and when I saw it on sale for $699 I jumped on the chance to pick it up. It came well packed and included a small bag of wood pellets to get you up and running right off the get go. I unpacked it, washed the inside of the oven with some soapy water (because I’m paranoid) and put all the racks and other bits into the dishwasher.I loaded up the water tray with water, the hopper with wood chips, and then tried to make it go.Not happening. The display would not change no matter what button or sequence of buttons I pressed. I could tell that the various buttons were working because I could turn it on and off, switch the light on and off, and so forth. But nothing I did would change the display. In an act of desperation if tried hooking up to the internet via the app figuring that I could use the app to make the thing work (like I said, I was REALLY psyched about using this indoor smoker). No dice. After trying over and over again I could not get the app to talk to the smoker. Lest you think that I’m technologically challenged, I spend most of my work time writing computer software and build my own PCs.There’s an expression in the world of computers: The Bleeding Edge of Technology. It seems like this might be the case for this product.I’ve not given up, but I’m going to wait a few months or maybe a year for them to iron out the bugs before I stick my hand back in, lest the sharp edge cuts me once again.

5.0 out of 5 starsI’ve done 3 separate cooks in my unit and everything has come out great using the recommended cook settings. So far I’ve smoked a pork butt, brisket, and a lamb leg. Everything has come out wonderful. I live in a very small apartment >600 sqft, so this unit has been a dream come true. There is a slight smokey smell that comes through the unit and spreads through my apartment, but it’s very non offensive and smells plesent. Similar to the smell of driving past a back yard bbq or going to a smoke house restaurant.I would absolutely recommend this unit to those unable to get a larger outdoor smoker.

5.0 out of 5 stars2/26/24. I got a Rubbermaid commmercial oven thermometer to double check and confirm that the GE Smoker cabinet temperatures were not accurate from a second source before I would send the unit back. I really did not want to send it back, it seemed like such a good product. Well, to my pleasant surprise, the GE cabinet temperatures are in fact very accurate. It was the Meater+ ambient temperature probe portion that was inaccurate and not the GE smoker setting itself. Go figure? The Meater+ and the GE Smoker internal probe portions were both within 0-1F, so I thought that the Meater+ ambient temperature section would also accurate at 250F, but not true. I set the GE Smoker temperate to 250F and after about 30 minutes the oven thermometer read 250F. Then I set the smoker temperature to 300F and about 30 minutes later the oven thermometer read 295F. Close enough. I guess low and slow applies to heating of the cabinet also. I then set the GE Smoker temperature to 200F and after about 30 minutes the oven thermometer read 200F. Spot on! Finally, I went to the warming mode of 170F and after some time the Rubbermaid oven thermometer read 170F. So in the end, the GE Indoor Smoker cabinet temperatures are very accurate. Now I can upgrade the product to 5 stars and I do not have to send it back for inaccurate temperatures.2/18/24 I cleaned out my GE smoker very thoroughly and baked an apple at 250F smoker temperature setting (0 smoke level) (probe temp 175F), to test both the GE internal probe and the GE smoker cabinet temperature sensor throughout the test. I used my Meater+ to also check and compare the temperatures (apple interior and cabinet ambient temperatures) throughout the test.. The GE Smoker internal probe was very aligned with the Meater+ within the apple through out the test (0-1F difference) . The ambient temperature (on my Meater+) kept creeping up past the set 250F smoker temperature throughout the test and leveled off at about 290F according to my Meater+ ambient temperature reading. When done, I checked quickly checked the interior cabinet walls of the GE smoker with my heat temperature gun which is very accurate, and it read from about 303-335F on the interior walls of the cabinet. I firmly believe that the GE smoker cabinet sensor is not accurate and is drifting up to 40F high than the set smoker temperature. I sounds like the bad cabinet sensor. Please give me instructions on how to proceeed?2/15/24 Just got the smoker and was trying ribs today. The internal temperature reading, not the probe, is reading 30-40 degrees f higher than my meater+ probe, which is very accurate. What should I do get get it accurate? Is there a calibration menu?

2.0 out of 5 starsI found it impossible to make good tasting food from this oven. The actual device is easy to use, but the included instructions and recipes are very lacking, and they should consider providing more community oriented features in their app and more precise measurements on how much spice to put on the food in their recipes. I own several smart cooking devices and just found this one to be really lacking in decent food outcomes. The interface on the oven is easy to use, but I found actually cooking decent tasting food to be difficult as the actual chicken was rubbery and way over salted. I tried their salmon recipe and several other recipes and nothing actually came out good.

2.0 out of 5 starsPurchased for my husbands birthday. This may be okay for someone tight on outdoor space but wanting a smoker, though it is HUGE- somehow all the professional reviews have it positioned and angled to look smaller than it is. We have a large kitchen and it took up a ton of space. We probably could have lived with that- but we tried 2 items (chicken and wings) and were not satisfied with the smoke flavor of either. We do outdoor smoking- so maybe it is tough to compare the two, but the same flavor could be achieved by using liquid smoke seasoning. The two biggest issues were the smell and the app/timer not working correctly. It smelled like the house was on fire on a 4 hour smoke and set off our alarms. The house still smells like smoke two days later. It also randomly shut off before set temperature was achieved and did not alert to the app.Overall- between the size, smell, lack of smokey flavor, app malfunction and difficulty to clean, this is not a good product. Hopefully it is something that GE or other brands will be able to update and achieve something that lives up to the hype.

5.0 out of 5 starsOK, here’s the truth…it smells like a fireplace in your home, not necessarily a bad thing. The hot air and a slight smoky smell exhaust out the front at the bottom. I have ended up opening the house a bit when I use this, but it has never set off my smoke alarms. I can’t see any smoke but can definitely smell it. Overall it’s pretty easy to use and gives good results. It’s pretty small inside so I cut the ribs into two and don’t get a tri tip larger than three pounds. I live in a condo where the HOA says no BBQ’s or smokers on the patio or balcony so this solves that problem pretty well.

1.0 out of 5 starsReceived box undamaged and packing was in order. Unpacked, installed racks, drip tray, wood pellets. Plugged unit in, inside light came on and white light lit around knob. That was as far as I got. The control panel did not work while trying to prime the auger. Tried changing probe to temperature and other functions. None worked. Called GE to see if they had a solution. Informed by GE to ship it back. Returning item with a very dissatisfied attitude.
