2.0 out of 5 starsI did not have any luck with this. Aligning it with the sun is very difficult. And you have to hold it very steady. It also hurts to look at but you dont have a choice. I think I will just use a regular magnifying glass instead.

5.0 out of 5 starsHigh school math teacher here. Bought this to demonstrate a paraboloid focusing energy on a fixed point. For $8 or so, it was a crowd-pleaser. We were able to get some scrap paper smoking in a matter of seconds. I’m not sure about the construction/purpose of using a spring, but it assembles and breaks down pretty easily. My students also demanded they be mentioned in the review, so shout out to my D-period Precalculus class!

5.0 out of 5 starsI really didn’t think this thing would work…I mean why would it? It’s cheap and it’s a crazy idea. But it actually works. Easy too. I put it together, grabbed a dry oak leaf off of my porch, rolled it up and stuck it in the holder. It took a little ‘aiming’ to get the light on the leaf (just like a magnifying glass) but when it hit the leaf just right, it started smoking in about 3 seconds

2.0 out of 5 stars1. used tissue paper and still didn’t get it to light.2. It does produce a concentrated beam of light but it failed to light after a minute or so in 45 degree weather.3. Some type of sunglasses are a must. The reflective light on the tissue paper was very bright and could be dangerous to look at for an extended period of time.4. I will try again in different conditions, but as a survival device I give it a 1.5. Concerned on how it will hold up since its chrome plated plastic.6. A Fresnel lens is much more reliable

5.0 out of 5 starsI ordered this solar lighter not expecting it to work but more as a experiment. To my surprise it not only works but is not glass . It is durable and extremely light weight . Once you find the right angle to hold it , you can have something lit in 10 seconds or so . Be careful not to reflect it toward your eyes .

1.0 out of 5 starsThis thing has terrible assembly instructions and will only work if the sun is a 90 depree angle at 12 noon.

1.0 out of 5 starswas expecting the reflector to be made out of metal, this scratches very easily and most like break if in a backpack.

5.0 out of 5 starsI figured it was just a gimmick that would rarely work if ever. When it showed up and it was so small/ cheap feeling, I knew it would never work. So I lit a cigarette and went outside with another, in the device as instructed and set it on the ground in the sun. Within a second smoke poured out from the tip of the cigarette. I removed it and put it out. Then repeatedly put it in and watched smoke instantly pour from the tip of the cigarette. So I finished smoking my cigarette and then tried a stick. It took a few seconds but it too began to smoke. While it was not enough to get a fire going with just a stick, I think if I had used a cloth or bark material it would have been able to actually catch fire. So potentially this could be used in a life saving situation

5.0 out of 5 starsThese will light a cigarette, even on a windy day.For those of you who claim to never buy items made in “Chinese sweat shops”, you won’t like these. Clearly marked “Made in China”
